Leverage the Orange Network with SUccess in the City: the Series!

SUccess in the CityFor years, Syracuse University alumni have looked to the annual SUccess in the City networking events to help them make professional connections in metro areas around the country. Now this popular event is expanding to a series targeting alumni of all ages and covering a range of topics throughout the year.

The new structure is designed to help Syracuse alumni continuously leverage the power of the Orange network. Converting the event to a series allows flexibility for alumni clubs to tailor event topics and format, with the offices of alumni engagement and career services supporting club efforts. The result will be a more customized approach for alumni in the area.

“With past events we had alumni in all different career phases attend, and it was great to showcase the alumni network in the Atlanta area, but the amount of information to cover was more than a single event could sustain. Some attendees were recent graduates looking for advice on starting their careers, while others were more established alumni who needed a completely different agenda,” says Dave Bartell, executive director of outreach programs for Syracuse’s Office of Alumni Engagement. “Expanding SUccess in the City into a series allows us to improve the quality of the programming for new and seasoned professionals alike.”

SUccess in the City 2015 kicks off with gatherings for Class of 2015 graduates in nearly a dozen cities, including Atlanta, and will serve as their first official alumni event. Attendees will get networking tips along with an overview of their local alumni clubs and the benefits of playing active roles in the alumni association. See event dates and locations.

Subsequent SUccess in the City events are expected to vary by the city, designed at the discretion of the regional alumni clubs. In-depth networking and business etiquette tips, giving a strong interview, breaking into a new professional field, and building contacts in a new city are just a few examples of potential topics.

“Our goal is to work more closely with the clubs and help provide a richer experience based on what the alumni network in a particular region needs,” says Sam Clarvit ’10, Generation Orange alumni chair, who represents SU graduates of the past 10 years. “One city might want its next event to cater to Generation Orange alumni, our youngest alums, while another might plan an event for those in middle or upper management. Our primary goal is to build a continuum with this valuable program so all alumni can find professional success, whether they’re at the start or well into their careers.”
